About Snapchat
Snapchat opens straight to the camera, and that choice shapes everything about it. Instead of a feed or a profile, you see what is in front of you, ready to capture. Tap for a photo, hold for video, add a Lens or filter, and send it to a friend or post it to your Story. The idea is to share a moment while it is happening, not to craft a perfect post hours later.
Lenses and Bitmoji give that moment a playful layer. A Lens can change your face, add an animation or place something in the room around you, while a personal Bitmoji avatar can appear in stickers and chats. Filters adjust colour and mood, and captions or drawings can add a joke or a note. Because Snaps are designed to be viewed and then disappear, people tend to send ordinary, funny and unpolished moments — a meal, a walk, a reaction — rather than only highlights.
Chat sits alongside the camera rather than apart from it. You can message friends, send photos and videos inside a conversation, or video chat with a group, with Lenses available during calls too. Stories collect a day's Snaps into a sequence friends can watch, while Spotlight shows short public videos from the wider community. The Snap Map, when location sharing is on, shows where friends are, and Ghost Mode lets you hide your location completely.
Memories save the moments you want to keep, so a Snap does not have to vanish forever if it mattered. You can revisit, edit and reshare older photos and videos, or build a Story from them later. Snapchat suits close friend groups who message visually and often, and it works best when you treat it as a daily camera for friends rather than a place to broadcast to strangers. It is free, with optional purchases, and its charm is speed: open, capture, send, done.
