Among Us

Among Us is a game about trust, and how quickly it disappears. A group of four to fifteen players boards a spaceship, a station or a planet base, and most of them are Crewmates with a list of small jobs to finish: fix wiring, clear asteroids, swipe a card, empty the garbage. One or more players, however, are Impostors, pretending to help while quietly working against everyone else.

For Crewmates, the game is part routine and part detective work. You move from room to room, watch who was nearby when a body is found, and remember who claimed to be doing which task. When a body is reported or an emergency meeting is called, everyone argues, accuses and votes. A wrong vote can remove an innocent player, while a missed vote lets the Impostor survive another round. The discussion is often funnier and more tense than the tasks themselves.

Playing as the Impostor is a different kind of challenge. You must blend in, fake tasks convincingly, use vents to move unseen, and cause sabotage — cutting lights, closing doors or triggering a reactor alarm — to split the group and create chances. The best Impostors are calm, helpful in meetings and careful with alibis, because one careless slip can turn the whole crew against them. Winning as an Impostor feels like pulling off a trick, not just outplaying an opponent.

Among Us works best with friends, whether online or over local Wi-Fi, because familiar voices make accusations personal in a good way. Matches are short, maps are easy to learn, and customisation with hats, skins and pets adds a light touch to a game that is really about reading people. It is free to play with optional purchases, and it remains a strong choice for a group that enjoys bluffing, arguing and laughing at its own bad guesses.
